Fruit

When we moved to McCarthy Park 1 there was an orchard, though it had been ‘unloved’ for some time. Whilst trying to resurrect it, we also planted a new area. Years later, these were such good producers we transplanted to McCarthy Park 2!

It struggled for some time, until we bought some ducks and turkeys to roam around to eat bugs and weeds, and until we we really learnt how much feeding fruit trees need!

We grow passionfruit up the poultry pen, where it gets a ready supply of manure.

We have had to convert one of the rooms into a produce room to store what we preserve as well as to provide a safe, clean environment for the butchering, sausage making, honey extraction etc.

The produce room at its best!
