Quail

When we moved to McCarthy Park 2, we didn’t bring some of the animals we had kept for such a long time at McCarthy Park 1. This was largely due to there being no fencing or pens to keep them properly, but there is something about our new, more tranquil abode that means we decided to not get noisier animals like geese, guinea fowl and turkeys again. Instead we got quail!

We are really enjoying these fun birds, and they lay lots of tiny delicious egg!

Spring time they were laying lots of eggs again after slowing down over winter, so we collected a few to incubate. Our goal is to grow some replacement egg layers, as apparently they don’t lay for much more than a year, as well as some for meat.
